WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH: The Real Roxanne.

Like many other female rappers during 1984/85, Adelaide Martinez adopted the name Roxanne and set out to answer UTFO‘s hit “Roxanne,Roxanne.” At the top of that over saturated group of women, she is known as the Real Roxanne, with her biggest competitor being Roxanne Shante. She made a record called “Romeo” in 1985, which was an inversion of “Roxanne, Roxanne.” Later on, in 1988, she released an album produced by Jam Master Jay, Hitman Howie Tee & Full Force. And of that project, she released the single “Respect.”
